This special 2-day class allows participants to explore principles of design and learn a powerful new technique that they can add to their quiltmaking skill set: single-foundation piecing.
My approach to this class is as an exercise in exploration, a constant asking of the question “What if?” By introducing new ideas as possibilities – not as absolutes – participants are apt to approach them with less resistance, playing with an idea in terms of their own experience. The exercise in exploration pertains to both participants’ artistic and personal landscapes.
The first day is devoted to sharing examples of how I find exquisite designs deep within faceted gemstones, giving participants the tools and images to do the same, and providing time to play and experiment. By the end of the first day, participants will have created a design to work with on Day Two.
Day Two is devoted to learning techniques to chart and piece their faceted landscape -- the same techniques I use to create my giant gem portraits.
