Let’s paint fabric together in E-town, KY! This fast-paced class teaches students how to create hand-painted fabric to make glowing quilts. I’ll briefly describe how I taught myself to paint, which has since become one of the most joyful process in creating my quilts.
We’ll have a brief discussion of color and blending tips using small Color Wheels and Color Blending charts that I’ll provide, as well as more about Jacquard Products’ amazing Dye-Na-Flow fabric paint. Working in teams of 2, students will assemble their frames, attach fabric, and prep the surface. I’ll demonstrate how to create gradual washes of a single hue and how to blend colors for dramatic effects.
In addition to the class fee, there is a $20 charge for materials that I will supply. These include:
4 stretcher bars for your own frame
cotton sateen fabric
Color Blend charts
Shared use of staple guns and staples
Supplies you’ll need to bring include:
2 regular house paint brushes (about 2” or 3”), they don’t have to be new, just clean
Water spray bottle
1 plastic tarp or canvas drop cloth, no less than 6’ square
Rubber gloves (or vinyl or latex); just something to keep the paint off your hands
Roll of paper towels
4-5 paper or plastic bowls for color mixing and brush cleaning
