Copper Queen  is inspired by the magnificent column still that reigns over Angel's Envy Distillery (Louisville, KY). Glowing with colors of ocher, salmon, magenta, and fuchsia, the three-story copper still is an Honest-To-God Thing of Beauty.

Char #4

Series: Bourbon Diamonds (2017)
W X H: 81" x 48"
Traditional quiltmaking techniques using hand-painted cotton
$6,500

Fire, the most dramatic of the four elements. You can't make excellent bourbon without it. Char #4 celebrates Old Forester bourbon's heritage of crafting their own barrels, a process that requires setting the new oak aflame.

The "Bourbon Diamonds" series captures the fire and brilliance of Kentucky's iconic spirit.

Old Fashioned New

Series: Bourbon Diamonds
W x H: 46" x 82"
Traditional quilt-making techniques using hand-painted cotton
$6,500

The dramatic roof angles and variegated brick walls of the historic Willett Distillery (Bardstown, KY) inspired this piece. Using the amber, orange, and cherry hues of my favorite cocktail, the blend of design elements became "Old Fashioned New".

Lila

Series: Angle of Repose (2017)
W x H: 58" x 58"
Traditional quiltmaking techniques using hand-painted cotton and solid fabric
$4,500

Lilac, soft greens, the colors of spring.

The series is "Angle of Repose", a mechanical term describing the point at which an object comes to rest on an incline. A fraction of a degree more and the fall continues, but for now a moment of reflection. Position, not velocity. A moment's solace before the inexorable downward glide.
Such is life.

Fire & Ice

Series: Bourbon Diamonds
W x H: 50" x 82"
Traditional quilt-making techniques using hand-painted cotton
$7,500

Bourbon isn't bourbon without fire. Unless the interior of a new oak barrel is allowed to burn, there can be no blackening and crackling of the wood. Those tiny cracks invite the whiskey to penetrate the oak during the hot, lazy Kentucky summers, providing it's amber and smokey tones.

And ice? Of course.

When two meet, hearts race and sparks fly.

The series is "Angle of Repose", a mechanical term describing the point at which an object comes to rest on an incline. A fraction of a degree more and the fall continues, but for now a moment of reflection. Position, not velocity. A moment's solace before the inexorable downward glide. Such is life.

Communion

Series: Angle of Repose
W x H: 55" x 77"
Traditional quilt-making techniques using hand-painted cotton
$7,500

Intended as a reflection on conversation, perhaps even collusion, this piece had no working title. But once accidentally baptized with a splash of red wine, her name was settled.
